Our woman-only Lazy Daze drivin' maiden voyage -- was it successful? A resounding, enthusiastic YES! First, the stats: The youngest attendee was 41, the oldest (chronologically only) 66, with several nifty fifties in between; three recently-widowed, learning to cope independently and doing splendidly thank you (they strongly suggest that if other women find themselves in similar circumstances, don't sell your Lazy Daze until you come to one of our functions); two first-time boondockers; one first-time driving her rig; the longest drive,1600+ miles (from Shoreline, WA); one 30' LD; six 26.5 RB's; one 23.5 FL; one 23.5 TK; one 22 RL; three cat companions; two dog companions. We traveled from Washington, Oregon, California, New Mexico, Iowa (via Phoenix), Texas, Utah and Colorado. We couldn't have asked for a better locale, the climate and time of year was a refreshing change for many from frigid and wet climes, and the number of attendees was just perfect. We witnessed a springtime Mother Nature at work as the trees leafed out almost before our very eyes; the creek swelled to two feet above normal, the result of recent rains. After bats emerged for nightly forays, skies lit up with stars some nights, lightening and thunder other nights; we had gray skies one day, brilliant azure skies with white-white cotton ball clouds the other days; brisk breezes and breathtaking sunsets left us feeling very fortunate indeed. Then at days' end, we were lulled to sleep by hooting owls and a melodious rushing stream. The unstructured non-agenda "routine" facilitated do-it-ourselves Lazy Daze problem solving, with lots of help, advice, sisterly camaraderie and non-stop-laughter. We had impromptu awning, tire pressure/gauge, battery care and tank dumping/cleaning workshops; our rig tours, show and tell about new products, innovations and luxury items took four full days. We even picked up a few spa treatment/skin care tips plus a recipe for a non-streaking window washing formula. We thought we had done reeeeeal well staying up til nine one night around the campfire, then went whole hog wild another night, laughing, singing, kazooing, hootin' and hollerin' with S'mores and Kahalua til TEN another night. WOW! We shared stories of recent travels, sorrows, fears, challenges, hopes; we talked about kids, jobs, men, our Lazy Daze shopping experiences; we hiked to some awesome petroglyphs; we learned to play Mexican Train; we ate, sang (if you want to call it that), toyed with the idea of a fund raiser (The Women of Lazy Daze Calendar!), and did I say we ate WONDERFUL food? We motivated each other, nutured each other and acted silly. We're looking forward to a lasting group of Lazy Daze uppity women and hope you will join us and help us grow. |
