Yeah, I've been missing. Sorry internets, it has not been a great few weeks and if you can't say something good then come and sit by me... no wait, my mother had another ending.

It's good to have Mimi back for a few days, she dealt with the workers on Thurs and gave me a break. We've just been hanging out with friends this weekend, playing games and fixing stuff.

Everyone left today and Mimi and I walked over to the plaza to my new favorite Sunday taco stand. I'd been telling her how good the sopes were. She takes a bite and then asks me to taste it.

Me: "it's good"

Mimi: "do you think it is mole?"

Me: "No, it's too sweet, don't you like it?"

Mimi: "It tastes like dirt. Good dirt though. I like it"

She then finished off the two sopes. Yep, it's good to have her back.

You have been amongst the missing. Great mole around these parts if Mimi is craving the stuff - come on up ;-)

This Canuck dittoes what CancunCanuck says.... I'm in the throes of a terrible post Yucatrip depression, a ginormous flu/cold oppression and my traditional when-will-this-f*ck@ng-winter-ever-end despair, so I click on to hear your new interests and activities, what's new with food, plants, the home creation, bi-language'ing, bi-culturaling... all the activity and angst in your world is an addictive click of vicarious Merida for me. Like I mutter to myself, talking to my favourite scifi writers: "write more/write faster, I can find out where you live!"

Tacos? Where? is it the stand that sets up on the corner of 66 y 69? Someone was just telling me how wonderful the tortas there are.

Theresa

I'm the mole lover, Mimi claims she doesn't like it. I think as long as I say it isn't mole, she likes it.

I'm trying to get back into blogging, I really had nothing good or fun to say and bitchin and moanin gets old quick.

Theresa, I'll have to look for the stand on 66 y 69. Is it every night or just Sundays?

The place we went is on 63 at the Plaza Grande, across from the pharmacy and east of the Casa Montejo (Bancomer now). It is the 2nd stall from the corner of 60 y 63. They are from Puebla and they have Mexican food which is a good change from Yucatecan sometimes. I like the sopes de rajas con crema, the mole de pollo and the arrachera, Mimi had the tinta de pollo. They also have good tamales in corn husks, not banana leaves, and with the red sauce in the masa and the meat - highlands style. I love panuchos and tamales de chaya but sometimes you need a change.

Mmmm... sopes on the plaza. Deliciously memorable.
Thats a picture I have stored in my mind, cause I forgot to bring out the camera when we were there.
We'll have to come back soon -- well, soonish...

We are now passing slowly north. We'll be re-visiting New Orleans and Savannah, two of our favorites in the US. Will have to settle for some gumbo and po' boys in NO, and a nice sidewalk soup and sandwich, on one of the many little squares throughout historic Savannah.
Soups, but not sopes... oh well.

Yep, the same place we went when you were here. I'm hooked on them now. Although, gumbo and po'boys sound awful good too.
