I'm fine, I just haven't had any blog inspiration. I've had Akumal friends Donny and Cheryl with their darling beagle Lucy here and we've been having fun. They went to Celestun today to see the flamingos and I got involved in installing WordPress and checking the instructions for moving the blog. I am going to play around with it some and then maybe change over.
We've had some great meals, picked up fruit at my favorite roadside fruit vendor and enjoyed Noche Mexicana on Saturday. Just as well we did that because I think from now until this influenza is over I won't be going to crowded areas or eating with my hands at stands. It's frightening but not yet cause for panic. They have found one case in Chichen Itza in a French tourist who was with a tour that had been in Mexico City. It was inevitable, there are so many tourists flying in and out of this area that we were not going to be out of danger for long.
I'm impressed with the Mexican government's response. I hope that this does not become a world crisis. We've been warned for years that the world is overdue for a pandemic flu as it has been more than 20 years since the last Swine Flu outbreak. The SARS outbreak in 2003 ruined tourism for Toronto for a long time and this is really not what Mexico needs after all the cartel hype*. Plus, I just read that there was a 5.6 earthquake in Mexico City this afternoon. Seems like nothing is going right for this lovely country, I hope this is the last of the bad news.
*edited to correct my SARS reference and to add that the French tourist who became sick at Chichen Itza is now said to have something else, not Swine Flu. Still, there are confirmed cases from tourists who have returned to the US and Canada from Cancun. Also, today the Mexican federal government has closed all schools and large gatherings in the entire Republic until at least May 6th. This is a serious epidemic whether it gets classed as a pandemic or not and, like the rest of world, we are waiting and hoping and doing what we can to stay safe.

Don't wish to be picky "J", but wasn't that Toronto SARS thingy in 2003??? Not quite 20 years, but maybe I am just getting old and forgetful?? Or I have flu?
Mmmmm.
I was going to say SARS was in 2003as well.....
And we are avoiding groups and street food as well, just til this sorts itself out.
We're hanging out at home too. There's plenty to do.We can always play dominos! Oh, one of the plecos crooked, but one should be enough for our little fountain. How did the big ones like their new home?
regards,
Theresa
yea, I got my diseases confused. What I was trying to say is that SARS really wiped out Toronto and it was a similar scare although not Swine Flu.
Theresa, one of the pleos croaked? Oh no, I'm sorry. I wonder why? I have no idea how the big ones are doing as I have not seen them since I released them, I guess if it were bad they would float. I'm so bummed about the little guy.
At least you have that great house in which to play hermit.
I agree with Steve....if you need to be confined, you and the pack have some beautiful rooms to roam :-)

Jonna & Mimi:
We are heading to Cabo on Mon. 5/4 if things don't get too crazy before then. We are prepared to just stay at the resort for five days if things don't calm down! Too bad you guys are so far from Cabo or we could stop by for a visit :):)

I just arrived back in QRoo from the US and the flight into Cancun yesterday was mostly empty...out of Houston.
I am wondering if those prep school students flew through DF on their way home to NYC and caught the flu there because other than the reference to the fact that they were in Cancun on Spring break, there is no other mention of this area having any incidence of the flu.
Now that I am home I will stay here in the jungle and the breeze except for the occasional foray to the grocery store.
Stay safe you two. KK
I forgot one little tidbit....I thought of you last evening when watching the news...when they printed the worldwide temps, the only place listed that was hotter than Merida was New Delhi....KK
Shit! I've moved my blog and now I can't get Blogger to post my last entry with the new address. grrrrr...
I'll try again tomorrow but in the meantime, I am now at
