I didn't take the camera with me today and I was talking on my cell so much I didn't want to run the battery down taking pictures. Actually, that sounds like a silly excuse, mainly I didn't think about it.

I wish I had taken some pics as it has dawned on me from reading Nancy's questionaire that showing the stores and options I'm looking at would be of interest to some readers. I will go back to at least the hardware store around the corner from my house and take some pictures someday soon. It's an amazing place. We walked over there to buy the doorbell/intercom today. Turns out, what we have are 2 phones (holy mother of telephones, I am drowning in them) that connect to the box by the front door. One will be in the master bedroom and the other in the kitchen. Ring the bell and maybe I will answer through the box at the door. Of course, I probably won't understand what is said over it most of the time so I'm fairly sure I'll have to run to the door anyway.

I can almost guarantee you that I can understand if someone comes selling salvation through the Atalaya because that was the name of my parents house in Santa Barbara. Only thing, they named it El Atalaya and I don't think it falls under the rule where a feminine noun uses a masculine article although I can't tell you exactly how that rule works. Anyway, whether it is El or La Atalaya, it means Watchtower so I'm probably safe from the JW's. Oh, and my parents didn't name the house because of any religious affiliation, it had a tower and was on the ocean and my mom wanted a Spanish name for it. She probably got her gardener to translate it for her.

I am really rambling. Back at the hardware store, we also got a ladder so we can change light bulbs and get on the upper roof. Interesting how they sell ladders, by the number of steps. We had a choice between a 13 step, 17 step or 25 step. We got the 13 step and I think it is about 15' extended.

Later, we went to a Niplito and bought a bunch of toilet paper holders, towel racks and hooks. That ran quite a few pesos even after I found some I liked, that didn't have too many embellishments, and were cheaper than the stunningly minimalist very expensive ones.

Oh, and I bought a bread box too. That was my impulse buy of the day. I spotted it at CostCo while buying a whole lot more nicorette gum because if there is one thing that the last few days have done to me it is make me want to smoke. I haven't smoked, but I am chewing feverishly most of my waking moments. I kind of loved the bread box. It is stainless steel, with a glass roll top that is the same bumpy, dentist office, glass that is in my doors and the handle looks like the handles on the kitchen cabinets. Plus, Mimi was talking about how she doesn't like cold bread yesterday and wanted something to keep her bread in besides the refrigerator. I walked away from it once but kept thinking about it and went back for it.

When I left the house at 7:30pm, they had just gotten the internet working. Hoo Boy!

Reading about your shopping excursions and mental debates, is almost as much fun as doing it myself without the exhaustion. Missing the pictures - but can certainly understand you not taking the extra time as busy as you are - and am still feasting on the last ones you posted.

About the breadbox - do you have trouble down there with scorpions/bugs getting into things like breadboxes and candy dishes, etc.???? When I lived in OKLA, those scorpions could get in the most surprising places that you were sure was sealed tight....which is when/where/why I started keeping bread in the frig.

Jonna, Isn't it weird how after all this time you still crave cigarettes in times of stress?

I am the same, the last week has been really hard for me - I don't think there has been stress but for whatever reason I have had a hard time.

Just hang in there...have you considered Champix as a way to break from the nicotine gum? It's what helped me quit, and my Spanish teacher used it to quit from a 20 year habit and has now been off cigs for 4 months. The medicine fills the nicotine receptors or something.

ANyway, glad you're hanging in there.

I now see you DO have some religious leanings - ;-)
