How is it that Mimi and I are freaking out because we will probably move into our house this week? Isn't this what the last year (or two) has been about? I don't know, but we are both rather nervous about it. For all our carping about life in the trailer park, these last few months parked next to the Dodwell's has been so much fun and so easy. We've been there for each other when things didn't go as we thought they should, when it all looked bleak, when we were celebrating. Our animals get along as well as the humans do and move back and forth between the 2 rigs. Tita goes in their place every day to eat Barney's food and lay around a bit and their 2 dogs greet me whenever I come home and spend as much time laying in front of our rig as their own.
The party is coming to an end and we are all really sad about it. They leave tomorrow to move to one of their houses at the beach and it looks like we will move into our house on Thursday. Aside from everything else, we'll be lonely without them. We took the cat and the 3 dogs over to the house today to hang out and look around their new digs. Henry came by and we had a good meeting with him. I feel a lot better about some of my concerns and we've found solutions to most of them.
The electrician (one of the He Who's) was there working on the cabling for phone, internet and TV. The garage door is locked and should be completed this week, Rosendo has returned to his village and we are starting to feel like it is our place.
What were the first things we did? Laundry and showers!
We weren't ready to use our shower yet as there were guys working on the roof and coming in and out the door. Again, I have to wonder if leaving one wall off the master bath was a good idea, it's the only route to the roof. I'll let you know once we are really moved in and feel we can use it.
The guest shower was great, the on-demand hot water heater is still not decided. I ran out of hot water, Mimi didn't. We'll try it for awhile and may switch to a tank style if it doesn't work better. If they really do get internet installed tomorrow I will be a very happy camper. I would love to not be ruled by Hughes' idea of how much I should download and following video links on a whim or downloading music will be a thrill.
I'm excited about having a kitchen with counter space and, joy of joys, a full sized refrigerator!I don't think I've posted this before, the completed cabinets housing the refrigerator, oven, microwave and wine (fruit) cooler. It's gorgeous and I'm thrilled with how it turned out.
The water filter is installed and working and the ice maker is cranking out ice cubes. Wow! I've forgotten what life is like in the 21st century, I'm so used to filling ice trays and defrosting refrigerators.
Right now I think the kitchen is my favorite room in the house. Who knows though, once the weather warms up and I get used to the house, other views may be more inviting. It's an emotional time, we've been on this road for a long time and I don't think either of us know what life will be like after it's finished.

Congrats! Your house is gorgeous and I'm sure you'll feel at home in no time.

WOW! Looks very posh Amiga - great colors.
You don't have to give up on RV life as an occasional pastime do you? Or are you leaving on a jet plane now (perhaps your own? ;-)
Wow, what incredible changes. For the entire time we've known you, you've lived in Tortuga. I'll be interested in how you like all the space. We house sat for 6 weeks and ended up living in Cholula because we just liked it better, but then, the house wasn't "ours". We send you love and can't wait to hear the rest of the tale.

That's right Kate, we've lived in Tortuga for 7 and a half years, since Sept of 2001. I'm feeling very nostalgic about our home on wheels now.
My biggest job this week is to figure out where we want to park Tortuga that is safe and won't cost a fortune.
Yes, Juan, we are hoping to take many more trips in Tortuga and we're hoping that she will live a lot longer without the weight of fulltime supplies riding on her back.
Wow!!! Beautiful & cheerful spaces you have to live in!!!!....and you found the kind of frig I want. Especially looking forward to seeing your "Library/Computer" space - my 2nd favorite area in a home. Do you have a floor plan posted somewhere that I've missed??? How wide is your lot? Surprised there isn't enough room in your garage for Tortuga. Must have a larger idea of the space than it actually is.
What a wonderfully creative project!! Your accomplishment is amazing. Brings to mind the saying.."a house you build yourself - warms you twice."
Mic
I thought Tortuga would fit in the huge garage!
Your house is a palace compared to the Lazy Daze, but we know how you feel. The rig is so comfy/cozy and you know where everything is. Moving would be traumatic in any case. Me thinks you'll get used to it pretty fast. Sending calm thoughts.

Jonna, I am speechless, but full of emotion just can't find the words to say what an amazing accomplishment. I hope you have many wonderful days and nites living in your home.
kind regards, Corrinne
I will say it again: the two of you are an inspiration to those of us who are still looking for The Place.
When you two (y los otros) move in, I'll have a glass to celebrate with you. Thanks for taking me, and others too, along with you on this beautiful trip. The house looks fantastic, great colour and design choices. Felicidades!
Jonna - Re: On Demand water heater. We have a Bosch and are running into the same problem - the heater cycles down after a few minutes. We found that if we run the hot water faucet in sink at the same time when showering, we'll have hot water for the duration of the shower. Try it, maybe it will work for you. This water heater really saves gas, we had our 300 l tank filled last April and have not needed a refill yet!
Thanks for the kind words folks, it is an interesting change.
Our garage was converted from a bedroom and a full size car does not even fit into it without the bump out they made into the old door frame. It's wide but not deep. Even so, taking Tortuga down into the centro on the narrow streets and low hanging wires is not something Mimi wants to do. We have some options out of the city but I'd like to find someplace on the edge of the city where we could stop by often and check on her.
Elke, we will try that, ours is a Bosch too. I've heard that if you mess with the controls you can get the water flow right so that it stays on and hot. We LOVE that you've gone since April on your 300 gal tank! That would be fantastic.
CONGRATULATIONS! It's been a long time in coming. The whole thing is beautiful, but I have to say, I am particularly enamoured of your kitchen. Wowza.
Great! I guess I need to get cracking on those oil cloth washer and dryer covers! Actually, you need to pick out the print because if I do it will be totally naco.
regards,
Theresa
Love the kitchen cabinets! Beautiful. No wonder it's your favorite room!
Aw, Mimi looks so lonely in that huge laundry room. I think you need about 4 kids worth of dirty clothes in there. :)
Of course you're bittersweet. It is totally normal. I am pretty sure we won't be up for Carnaval. We just can't spend the money. Sigh. Enjoy and keep posting pictures!
Jonna & Mimi The house is gorgeous, the kitchen is amazing. Before you know it, you'll be right at home. We have a large backyard in Chuburna that will soon have a secrure gate, you're welcome to park Tortuga there anytime. Enjoy your new casa!

Wow, it is beautiful. I may have to come back to Merida to see the full furnished glory.
OK, how do the critters like the place? It won't be "home" unless they are comfortable with it.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.
Anne and K.C. (again)
Fantastic kitchen...it is definitely a space to enjoy!!! I know you must be excited about moving in this week.
Oh you guys will love life there.
I can imagine you throwing all the doors wide open, music flowing throughout, dogs and cats and your birds whooping and hollering. Friends and wine and late nights.
Thanks for letting us share the adventure.
Wow! The cabinetry in the kitcehnif off the hook! Did you have that all custom made? It is spectacular. I am so excited for you both and the critters!!
I love the colors and the details such as the inserts in the terrace. Colorful and warm and inviting at he same time. Truly beautiful. Cherrie a/k/a lippincottfarm
