Carnaval is in full swing, music and people and parties. We walked over to the parade with our friends (and downstairs neighbors in Akumal) David and Tandy on Friday and David took pictures.
The bar at the corner is going all out, at least their speakers are out. Outside... and pointed this way. It's loud and I have no idea when they shut it down as it's always after I've gone to sleep. That's the good news though, I can sleep through it easily. We have found that closing the doors to the bathroom and the roof cuts the noise way down.
I walked by there today and they were grilling out on the sidewalk, they have a big sign that says 'Poc chuc + 2 caguamas Sol $64' Not a bad deal and the food looked good. Tandy and David were here during our hot water problems. We had the on-demand heater removed and a regular tank heater put in. There was joy for one evening. In the morning, no joy and no hot water. It wouldn't light. They sent the installer over again and he discovered that the regulator on our gas tank wasn't working. We got this huge gas tank so we would not often have to deal with getting it filled. It came with an industrial sized regulator and apparently our wimpy gas use fouled it. They replaced it and we now have had hot water for 2 whole days!!
Besides all the young and beautiful dancers on the floats, two of my favorite groups are the Adultos Mayores and the Jubilados y Pensionados. These old folks dance and march the whole parade route and they put some serious moves on along with a lot of satin and feathers. Although we are only a few blocks from all the action, we haven't gone out other than that one night. I'm still spending my time wandering around the house putting things away and then moving them again a little later.
We made dinner tonight, just the two of us eating at the kitchen table. BBQ ribeye steak, spinach and salad. It was our first meal here alone I think, it seemed like it. We're starting to feel more at home here, we don't follow each other from room to room much. It's almost home.

Does the kitchen table fold down? When I first saw that photograph, I thought you were eating in a Manhattan eatery.
No, it's an extension of the island. There is an iron curlicue underneath that supports it. Actually, it is on my punch list as it needs a little more support. The corners move and squeak.
I was surprised at the size actually, 4 of us have eaten at it on a cold night. The challenge, as in every house I've lived in, will be to keep the detritus of life off of it. My kitchen table always collects keys and papers and odd items that you don't know where to put. Which brings me to our current problem, we still haven't designated a 'junk drawer.'
your kitchen is beautiful, as is the rest of the house. i love the wood and the floor, i always wanted a black and white kitchen floor.
i told myself i used to have a body like the girl on the left, but naaaah, it was never that good ;-) now i'm more like one of the older folks, well, maybe not quite there yet.
i don't know if i've ever told you, but you got me hooked on lolcats. those pix and videos are hilarious! i love the video of the rat chasing the cat!
have a great day!

We call it the "Horizontal Surface Rule" all horizontal surfaces will collect objects. The only one in my house without stuff on it is your table in my entry way. I keep telling myself it isn't mine so I can't use it. It gives people a false impression of orderliness when they enter our house.

Theresa
I too love the Adultos Mayores in the Carnaval!!! Especially when the van that follows them is carrying the ones that just couldn't do it anymore!! So cute!
Beautiful kitchen of course!!!!
Wow. That is so beautiful!
Congrats on your lovely home!
Hey Jonna,
Your place looks GREAT! We just had a kitchen table built with that looks like the same finish.
We do have a question for you. A while back you said you were having trouble with your Bosch demand heater.... we are too. We just finished renovating our place in Puerto Morelos and we installed 2 of them and we are having to open extra taps to get them to kick in.
Did you ever get yours fixed? What did you do? We have the Bosch rep visiting us today to look at ours. This will be the 2nd trip they have made to the house. No luck so far.
Thanks and drop us an email.
