To quote Sir Elton John, the bitch is back!Normally I try to maintain a thin veneer of polite behavior but it fell away today.
Henry is out of town and I am not doing well with a couple of his minions. I call them He Who Wants to Drown Me and He Who I Want to Kick in the Nut Sack. Short, cheerful nicknames that I use just in fun of course. Actually, either name would work for either one of them. I'd happily connect with a heavy boot on either and I'm sure either would love to hold my head under water for a half hour or so.
So, I revealed the crude Californian that I am and managed a half hour rant that I'm sure neither of them understood more than every 3rd word. Since every 3rd word began with an F and included many of the wonderful ways we can conjugate and accessorize words in English, I think they probably knew I was not pleased and that I was not a lady but perhaps not much else.
It was cathartic at the time but didn't solve anything. Later, I was just more depressed about it all. Yesterday, Theresa and I went nursery shopping and I arranged for 3 large African bamboo and 6 heliconia to be delivered and planted this afternoon. That cheered me up. They look great and will soak up any extra runoff from the barely functioning septic system behind us.

Amiga - What is that big building seen beyond your wall> Don't think I have read or seen much about your surroundings there.
Stay Cool Amiga! Remember you are operating on Mexican time.
Felt good didn't it! and who gives a shit if it accomplished anything of any more lasting importance than to make you feel better! You Go Girl
The big building is a hotel, looks like a prison doesn't it? Most of the small hotels seem to have those tiny, prison windows on the outside and open into an inner courtyard, I assume this one has a courtyard too. I don't like looking at it thus the reason for the timber bamboo.
Our neighborhood is a mix of stuff, the places on my street tending to be a little better than the places on the street behind me. Across from the hotel you can see is the ADO bus station, there are some interesting folks on the street there late at night. It feels pretty safe though, I walked down there about midnight to go to the cervefrio when the Dodwell's were helping us assemble stuff and it wasn't anywhere near the feeling I used to get walking for a sandwich in the afternoon from the Hall of Justice in SF.
On our street we have everything from a Notario's office and an ultra sound clinic to nice middle class homes and abandoned looking old houses. There are about 5 houses on my block that have been renovated and at least 2 more that should begin soon. I like to think we've improved the neighborhood but I'm not sure everyone feels that way.
Thanks Debi, I do feel better and putting it out here feels better too. Frustration kills :) Plus, the sob's got their butts in gear yesterday afternoon and got more done than they have in a week.
jonna, i'm curious if you've been able to take advantage of the great peso to dollar exchange rate. i kind of wish i had something big to purchase, but i rent (furnished) and want to keep my stuff down to all fitting in the back of my nissan pickup "stormy" so don't have a lot to buy. but i like to know what people are spending their "extra money" on.
barb in el chante, jalisco
oh, i forgot to mention, i'm not nosy, i'm an anthropologist!
I can't believe Jonna left out our most wonderful neighbor! There is a bakery about 7 doors away!
The exchange rate helps that is for sure. It's hard to balance it in my case. I need to bring chunks of money down to pay construction costs and there is always the question of whether to bring one big chunk or spread it out and hope for a better rate. I'm not very good at it frankly.
I think the biggest help for me has been buying furniture for the house. I'm going to buy a TV this week and I will probably use my AMEX card instead of paying cash from the money I already have here in pesos. The pesos I have cost me more than they are going for now and it comes out better even with the surcharge for credit cards.
On the other hand, whatever pesos I have here are worth less every day. It's definitely better to hold your money in dollars and exchange it only when needed. That's not always possible though.
Jonna, I think that they got the message if the "he who"s finally did something. It looks like the nursery did a good job on the plantings.
I had lots of fun on our magical mystery nursery tour.
regards,
Theresa
