We met Henry at the house today, that's his handsome face at the left. I told him I had to have a picture of him, he wasn't thrilled but I think it came out fine.

Looking at the skylight and considering rain, neither of us think that much water will end up on the hall floor. The wall will get wet, water will go into the pond and the planters but that's fine. If a hurricane comes through I could put some lexan or boards over the opening above, although I really don't think I'll need to. I am going with the thoughts from mcm in the previous posts comments, once I'm living there and see how it works I can change things if needed.

The other thing about this set up, there is a dry well in the hall very close by, it's a little to the left of where I was standing to take this picture. I took this a little after noon and I'm really happy with all the light.

If there is water on the floor, or when the floor is mopped, we can squeegee the water into that dry well and it's gone. The well currently has a concrete cover that is really heavy. Mimi asked for a lighter one and they are going to have one made from iron with thin shutters on it so you can't see into it but water passes freely.

This is the same well that bubbled up in the last huge rain. Henry looked at it then and immediately said they should have concreted the drain pipe into the well so that it can't back up in heavy rain. They've done that now and if the water can't drain fast enough it will back up the pipe and on the roof and then drain, better than bubbling out in the hall. Inside the hole, there are drains from the air conditioners and we can sweep water into it. That water will drain out through the ground rather than down the well shaft.

We talked about colors today. We've decided on a creamy yellow for the front, darker than a pastel but not bright. The trim is off white per the historical regulations. The garage door will be made from iron with wood behind it. The iron will make it stronger and not susceptible to sun and rain warping. It's automatic, I'll have to be careful that no one is walking on the sidewalk when I hit the remote as it will open from the middle across the sidewalk.

We finalized the design for the office wall that is next to the garage. That wall used to have a doorway into the garage, which used to be another bedroom. The previous owners bumped the wall out inside the doorway so they could get the nose of their car into it. It's actually convenient since the garage, having been a bedroom, is not deep enough for a full sized car.

The bump out in the next room, now our office, was pretty ugly though. You can see it in this picture of the office before they started demolishing it. They tore out the brick bump and are going to use dry wall (in Mexico!!) to continue the wall level with the rest of the wall in the office. That still leaves another 1.5 feet for the nose of a car - love those 2' thick walls! On the office side, it will have concrete shelves and a niche for some kind of art or a statue perhaps.

There is still so much left to do... I'm doing OK with the waiting but I admit that it is getting harder as things get closer. I'm now just wondering if we will be in by Christmas.

I finished the last of these antibiotics last night, for the last 3 days though I've had the runs and a strong pain in my lower abdomen. It is bad enough that it hurts to change position, like standing up, and going over topes and bumps in the road is not good. I got scared a little, we are heading back to Akumal today and the idea that I'd get back over there and be sick again really freaked me out. So, last night I called and went in to see the doctor. I actually saw her partner who is this world famous guy that everyone is in awe of. He's a nice guy, his English is excellent as he was the head of something in London for years. He uses all these British expressions which I found endearing.

He examined me and said that there was no bleeding or other major abdominal trauma, which was my big fear, and that between taking the anti-parasite meds for 5 days and the antibiotic for 8 days I had wiped out everything in my intestines. He gave me a script for some super probiotics to replenish my gut bacteria. So far, I haven't been able to find them at a pharmacy but I'm trying a couple more today. Meanwhile, I'm taking 2 of my regular probiotics whenever I eat. ¡Ojalá que esto esté acabada pronto!

The house is absolutely stunning but I have to smile thinking of you moving from the LD into that regal dwelling. Such a contrast. Anne and K.C. Johnson

Yes, I did find a gem in Henry. He's a friend now, I just enjoy hanging out with him.

Oh yes, my RVing friends, it will be a huge adjustment for us. We've lived in about 100 sq ft for the last 7 years and we're moving into 4000 sq ft!! I have no idea how this will work but my guess is we will adjust faster than a rabbit on the run. I can never find Mimi now, and there is no where for her to go, I think I'll have to call her on her cell all the time to find her in that house.

I chickened out on returning to Akumal, we are staying in Merida at least until Tuesday to see how I do without the antibiotics. I'm a wuss, but I was so scared of being over there again and sick. Just deciding to stay a few more days was a huge relief. I'm only a few minutes from my doctor and if this pain doesn't get better or if it gets worse, I'll need her.

I was just going to ask you how many square feet you had and you answered it.It will be a palace because it looks like one to me. Just really beautiful already!! Now (being an animal person for 68 years) one of the first things that went through my mind is that you are going to have to teach all your fur kids that it is not a park and they still have to go out to potty. They will get lost just exploring your new digs.

Jonna, I love the house and all the things you are thinking about right...like the well thing. And you can tell Henry is nice, it shines through in the picture.

Can you post something about the regular probiotics and the super one? I will need these when I get done with this %@#$*&% salmonella and would love to know the name, where to buy, etc.

Thanks!

About the size of the house, perhaps I'm a bit sensitive to this as it feels kind of ostentatious to say 4000 sq ft - just too much space for 2 people. It's listed as about 375 sq meters but these things are measured differently in Mexico than in the US. Included in that is the garage and any patio that has a roof - and we have several of those. Basically they count anything that's covered, I'm pretty sure the patio outside our bedroom is counted since it has a screen over it. Also, I haven't gotten an updated sq meter figure and it's possible that the originally proposed roof terrace is part of that. I know, I'm waffling. It is a huge house with 5 main indoor rooms.

The dogs have been over there but not lately. I think they will get it pretty quickly. We had a problem teaching Cuba not to pee on the deck of our condo. Hey, it's outside right? We have a dog door built in by the master bath that will let them out on the roof. It's not a bad place for them to use as it is easy to clean up. We're pondering where we'd prefer them to go, we may end up with where they prefer to go as long as it is outside somewhere. I'm not sure if letting them go on the roof will confuse them about the deck at the condo, poor dogs we humans are so picky and there is no telling where we think is good.

Nancy, I think you do need to get some of this. I had a hard time finding it and finally got it at the hospital pharmacy, regular ones didn't have it, even CostCo.

It's called Lacteol Cron and lists the following in each capsule:
Lactobacillus LB (Lactobacillus fermentum y Lactobacillus delbruecki) muertos (10 mil millones) en 340 mg de polvo liofilizado.

an aside, I hadn't read the label before and now I'm wondering why it says the stuff is dead?

The Dr told me to take one in the morning and one in the evening.

I do think I'm getting a little better, the pain is still pretty intense if I eat (I've taken Dolac for the last 2 nights) but not quite as bad.

My regular probiotic I get at GNC and take 1 daily and have for years. It's called Multi-Enzyme Formula, comes in a blue bottle with a red top and is the GNC brand. I'd have to get better glasses to read the lable but I used a magnifying glass to read it the first time I bought it and I thought it was fairly complete. It costs $330p for 90 capsules so not cheap but it's clearly imported, the spanish label is pasted over the english one.

I also usually drink one of the little live yogurt things a day too. Can't hurt.

Are you sure Henry is Mexican? He is SMILING!!! I don't think I can ever remember seeing that.

The place is looking amazing. This is a good time of year to be across the peninsula - it is FREEZING here now (but you'll find that out soon enough for yourselves).
