This is such a beautiful spot, the RV park where we live when we are in Mérida. The dogs love it because they can run for blocks, chasing iguanas. Now Tita loves it too because she has experienced her first tree and grass and bugs.

She does wear her halter and leash, just in case a strange dog comes along and we have to get her quickly. Or, when she goes up too high in the tree and Mimi has to climb up after her.

We're staying here until Wednesday when we will know for sure whether Ike is coming this way or not. It doesn't look like it, he is due to continue the length of Cuba and come out north of us in the Gulf. Still, he could hook left at the last minute and that would put him off our coast.

We've got the condo buttoned up as tight as it gets and we don't want our RV caught in a hurricane. You know that saying about trailers and RVs attracting tornados? I think it works for hurricanes too. They just aren't built for that kind of wind or pressure.

We've been over at the house several times. I finally took the camera to get a picture of water in the pool, except that apparently the pool is leaking. Also the water is a decidedly unappetizing, algae-filled, green. I took a picture anyway. They are letting the water go down until it stops so they know at what level it is leaking. Benjamin told me yesterday that they think it is around the skimmer. The rocks for the coping were delivered yesterday so it might start looking better soon.

The door man's workers were there working on the original door jambs. They burn the old paint off before treating it. I like this picture of the guy working with the torch. He's even wearing a mask!

I've also been visiting nurseries and falling in love with all kinds of palm trees. There are some beauties here, I never realized how different some palms can look. Now I'm spending time cruising garden forums to figure out what they need and which ones can live in pots. Growing up and living in California, palms are everywhere but they are all pretty much the same. Well, maybe they weren't and I just never noticed? Anyway, I've found some gorgeous ones with blue fronds and some webbed ones from Cuba and fluffy round ones... who knew?

those pictures of tita are precious but the one of her looking at the camera, wow, that one is awesome! reminds me of something from national geographic, although that would most likely be of a wild cat.

those poor people in cuba, as if they don't already have enough problems. pinar del rio, one of thte areas that was hit by gustav, is where my parents were from. since they passed away we no longer have contact with family there. since we left in 62, a lot of them were born after we left so i've never met them.

i can't wait to see what your place looks like when it gets done. i love palm trees too. we don't exactly have them here in washington.

stay safe!

Fuffy round palms, huh...and blue ones. If you get any of those, I would love to see a picture. Are you going to try to grow most things in containers, or do you have a planting section in the back?
The pool is looking good (well, except for the algae). I hope they get the leak fixed properly. :)

Oh Teresa, my heart goes out to the people in Cuba and in Haiti. It's very bad. Mimi just told me that Ike is running up the length of Cuba as a Cat 3, not losing much strength at all. I've heard that Cuba has an excellent civil defense and I know the news here said that they had evacuated much of the eastern half of the island, I hope no one is killed. Haiti, on the other hand, is so poor and so helpless and already devastated by Gustav - it won't be good.

Sandye, I posted some of the palm pics on AP but I am going back over to the nursery to get some more pics and info. The fluffy one, wow! It's like a spiral cotton candy cone.

I'm not worried about the pool, I've grown so confident in Henry because I see the kind of service he gives his clients even a year after the house is done. I know he won't leave it leaking, I'm sure they will find it.

Awww, little Tita is growing up, gorgeous pics of her! I can't wait to see more pics of the house, looking good!

I feel and fear for the people of Dominican, Haiti and Cuba, let's hope this is the last of it for them this year, they can't take another wallop. Two months (ish) left of hurricane season though, it's probably just wishful thinking.

The kitten is so cute, but please lose the harness because....

I think a picture of Mimi up the tree would be PRICELESS!

You can put it back on after, right.

I hope you realize how cute that little kit kit is of yours!

Keeping an eye on the storms. What a crazy season. Early on in the year I noticed that the weather was off. Couldn't explain it. Lots of wind in the evenings and a lot cooler at night mixed with really hot windless days. Anyhow, lets hope this is the last.

We replaced our coconut palm with a Christmas palm and are very happy with it. Do NOT ever plant a coconut palm. They are filthy, dirty, shedding, red ant attracting, potential bonk you on the head killers.

Hey Todd, Mimi got a big laugh from your comment. She gets about half way up the tree sometimes if she can't wheedle and pull her down with the leash.

We do think she is the cutest kitteh in the world and tell her that several times a day. I hope it isn't going to her head.

I don't know what to think about this 'cane season. I'm still crossing my fingers and toes that the door doesn't open coming this way.

Yeah Wayne, I'm well aware of the dangers of coconut palms. Never park under one either if you like your vehicle. The ones we're looking at are smaller and the seeds are smaller too. I'm going for the foliage!
