Rain! It's been raining off and on for a week. Sometimes those torrential tropical downpours that sound like someone is pouring water from a bucket, sometimes just a steady drum on the roof. A couple of mornings I was able to spend a few minutes on the deck in the sun, trying to find my lost tan.

I don't think I've been this pale in many years. It was so hot the last couple months that I spent as little time as possible with the sun hitting me. Now, with the rain, it is cool and fresh. I doubt the temp even got up to 80F today. Not much sun though.

The weather has matched my mood as I watch the train wreck in progress up north. I've had moments of panic as I get more and more financial bad news. I'm a pretty optimistic person though and so far I've been able to put it all in a better perspective. I live in paradise, I have a roof (or 2), love, so-so health right now but nothing imminent, music, and I can laugh... so I am. All I can really control is how I react and how I live, right now. Change is in the air though, some of it may not be on my wish list but we'll make it work.

Don't worry, Tita. We can keep buying cat food!

I am wishing the best for you two. Money is a scary thing for many these days. I hope that things work out well.

I LOVE watching your house evolve! I've never seen a restoration on a historical home. I can't wait for the gardens, colors, fabrics and furnishings to come. It's going to be so beautiful.

I've been a reader for years, don't recall how many, but I lived in my house and that was over 4 years ago. I have always liked the pictures on your blog.

I adore your little cat now too.

I can't start collecting my retirement for another 1.5 years so I hoping that by that time it will have regained some value. Thank God I am diversified so it is not going to hit me quite so hard. Unless the whole economy collapses, which is looking to be not out of the question.

We have been having the same weather that seems like it is lasting an eternity. I have stopped looking in the mirror because I am seeing a pale Gringo looking back at me. An old pale Gringo at that! Yuk!

The sun has finally come out here in Morelia--after about three weeks of steady leaden gray. It will come out again in Akumal, and the good news is it's still up there, behind your clouds!

OK, so what about the health issues? What's going on? That worries me more than money issues...we can learn to live without as much money, but...

xoxo to you both

I like your attitude...really, there's no point in worrying about things we don't control.

Although some things we do control, like who gets elected, and that will make a dramatic difference in how the US fares in the years ahead. (end of sermon)

No rain here in Mazatlan for the last couple of weeks, and we really need it to cool off all the concrete. Hopefully we'll get a few more good downpours before the rainy season is gone for good. But the funny thing is, we are getting pale, too. It's just too hot to be IN the sun for long.

I am so glad I missed the rain! We only had one shower the week we were there. I saw all the work going on at your condo. I was amazed that the cement was being moved by wheelbarrows. but, then again you are in Mexico. next time we come we will stay in Akumal. You have the best place I have seen yet. Beautiful beach and restaurants and A/C. Love the photos of the cat, work on house, and all the stories.

Oh and Jonna - I would email but when I lost my computer (motherboard died) I lost my email contacts, so forgive this email/comment - can you email me the current location of Bubba (I think you know who I mean)? I'd be interested in his take on the US economy and what he's doing with his money...

I think we are living totally parallel lives. I also think that after these 542 days of rain I have S.A.D.

I too have finally crawled out of my hole and proclaimed my attitude to be Whatever The Fuck when it comes to US economics. I'm just gonna keep on keeping on and stop the worrying because I can't figure out any other plan other than forging straight ahead and covering all the family bases. Bases covered.

We'll be in Merida next week - have you seen the latest Akmulian and the artist? I'm loving his work!

Try not to worry until you have to...and if you have to, you will find a way.

That cat is so damn cute. Just stare at her if you need to be distracted a little.

The financial news is depressing and it makes me so damn angry. I've written on my blog several times in the last year about the mortgage mess. If I could see that something didn't smell right, surely those who oversee the economy should be able to. Add to that, that I don't trust anything the government says anymore. Sad state of affairs.

I've been wondering why there is almost no people wandering the beach on the Akumel webcam :-) One little person there this morning - yesterday no one....at least when I was looking. Fingers crossed that the rain will stop soon and you will feel better.

Yes, - focus on the good in each day.

What I found utterly amazing was - even with the emails/calls from the public to Congress overwhelmingly saying - no bailout - even tho there were other options - they do it anyway.....just like the surge. US Public has no more to say about what our government does than anybody in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan or any other place we've butted in to spread "democracy".

Kathy, I think it just takes a minute or five for comments to post. I loved the little hedge fund, life would be alot less cheerful without Lolcats.

Billie I am with you, I'm mad too. Both of these situations could be seen coming for a country mile. The way our system seems to work reminds me of Mexican culture, no one wants to give out the bad news. There is not a politician in the US (maybe anywhere) that wants to stand up and say we have a big problem and we need to fix it and the solution is not going to make a lot of people happy. It's fatal. So, they all duck and parry and wait for it to collapse and they are forced to try something. Even so, they can't bring themselves to give out bad news. So, lets just print more money.

There have been so many emails to Congress over this that the server at the House of Representatives crashed! If nothing shows the US public that they have no voice, this should.

I do believe they have to do something or the effects will linger for many, many years depressing our economy and putting people out of work. It's WHAT they are going to do that concerns me.

I think it is a perfect time to say DAMN!!
