Our Info
Since September of 2001, Mimi and I have lived in our 27' RV, Tortuga, spending winters in Mexico and Central America and summers in the US. We've had a condo on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, in Akumal, for over 10 years and in 2007 we bought a 100+ year old colonial in Mérida that we are starting to renovate. We lived with our 2 Yucatan beach dogs Hombre and Chica for 4 years and in October of 2007 we added another rescue, Cuba. It's getting crowded but once the house is done we will have lots of room, maybe too much room. I wonder sometimes if we will all get lost in so many rooms.

Yummmmm!! Did you order some delivery from Hong Kong Express to go with them? :) I remember as a kid in California they always came with Chinese food to-go in those little wax paper bags. Nowadays you only get the fortune cookies.
Yes, I remember those little waxed paper bags and the fresh cookies inside. So far my experience with Chinese down here has not really come up to the standard. I thought Wok to Walk in Merida would be it but the last time I was there it had lost a lot of its novelty and wasn't as good.
Almond cookies are one of my favs, I used to drive way out of my way to go to a specific bakery out in the Richmond district of San Francisco to get the ones I liked best. They would be buttery and warm and fall apart in your mouth (but not your hand) with almond goodness.
Alas! These were harder and less almondy and less buttery. In fact, I dipped them in my morning coffee to soften them. Still, I got a whiff - just a whiff - of homesickness when I spotted them on the shelf. It's ok, I'm over it now.
hahaha... I get that way when I spot a place that sells Valentina sauce. I used to drink that stuff by the gallons (it's great on popcorn, jicamas, pizza.... you name it)...
Back then I only liked the Black label but here you only find the Yellow label (and that's if you're lucky!). Still, like you say, I don't mind that it isn't exactly my fave... it's just so good to even find it here!
Fned.
P.S. I forgot to mention that a bottle of it here costs 10EUR (that's like 140 pesos!!!!)
Fned.
Holy Moly! You can't be drinking it at that price. I like Valentina on chips and pizza, I hadn't realized that there were different labels. I'll have to check that out.
It's funny how smells and foods hit us at a deeper level. I rarely miss my old world but if it hits me it is almost always from food or smells.
This one is kind of weird, but when we were traveling back and forth all the time from the US to MX, I would get that first whiff of burning trash when we crossed the border and it would make me so happy to be back in Mexico. Sometimes up in the US someone would be burning wet stuff and I'd get instantly homesick for Mexico. There are a lot better smells in Mexico and where I am they don't often burn garbage but around the border they do and it just reminds me of crossing south.
