Uh Oh! Look what fell asleep in my shirt tonight.

Mimi has been volunteering at a spay and neuter clinic in the Akumal pueblo the last 2 days.

Today she called me and asked if we could "foster" a 3 to 4 week old kitten that needed to be fed every few hours.

I said 'of course' and this little ball of fluff and purrs arrived.

As she was going out to dinner with all the vets from the clinic, she said "we don't have to keep it you know".

Yeah... right.

Awwww!

Will her name start with an 'M'? I see she's branded on her forehead...

What a sweet little face.

And congrats on the blog roll!

Today we are thinking that "she" is probably "he" but the bits are so small we aren't positive. If it is a boy, I think we'll call him Tito. I like that name.

When I took him down to the vet dinner last night, conveniently they were at the restaurant on the beach next to our condo, the vets were joking that I should name her Tapas because they found out we have the doberman and 2 other rescued street dogs. I was not so happy with the idea behind that. One of them suggested Tito and I like that a lot better.

These are really nice vets, they came over from the veterinary school in Merida with their instructors to work these clinics. Our friend Jen is really good at organizing things so it all runs smoothly and she gets great cooperation from a lot of local businesses and schools. Mimi is the recovery room jefa, they were all very complimentary about how she handles all these dogs and cats in recovery.

Congratulations Mommies!!
I knew it!

And here I was bummed out that I didn't find out about it in time- well, and relieved that I didn't have to fall in love with any doggies to bring home!
But there's always room for another kitty! What a sweet baby!

Oh, you guys are gonna have so much fun with that cutie!

The good part is that if HE turns out to be SHE, she can always be Tita.

Remember, that was the kitchen servant's name in Like Water for Chocolate.

Lisa, there's going to be another clinic in Cheymuyil in June, we'll let you know!

Tita! Yes, I like that too. Manuela took a look today and she says (the voice of authority) that it is definitely a Tito.

Here is my understanding about cats and gender...if they have the three colors of black, white and orange, they are female with very few exceptions. So, if that is orange in front of the ears, my vote is that she is Tita. Kathe

Rachel- HA! You have to ask? Crazy woman of course we would! :)

Liz - I think Tito/Tita might disagree with you. Our dogs are HUGE to a little one like this

Lisa- No puppies or dogs were dropped off in need of homes ....... However........ There are 11 being fostered here in Akumal. Hint hint nudge nudge wink wink

And for sure I'll get you to Cheymuyil in June!

Got the total count of animals seen over the 2 days
106!! WOOOOOO HOOOOO we rock! At least half of those were spay and neuters if not a bit more. Makes my aching back SOOOOO worth it!

Cats are a lot like wolves you know. I have a tiny woof here that would probably like Mexico.

he's precious-even my husband said,"it's really cute!" when he walked in and saw the last picture. how are your dogs reacting to him? and i'm curious, what is the little guy's problem-is it contstipation or something more serious. i do hope he is feeling better soon.

We're encouraged today about his outlook. Another large, hard piece came out and we can't feel anymore in his belly. Mimi thinks the problem was that he was so young, probably closer to 2 weeks than 3 weeks old, and the first day of the clinic a volunteer sat and held him and fed him formula all day without stimulating him to pee or poop. He just got more food than his little system could handle. He's also gotten the worm medicine now and that should help as well.
