Have I missed anything? Except 2008 so far? Because I have missed this year almost completely. I've kind of spent the year taking to my bed, reading hours of idiot blogs posted every few minutes from CES about electronic gadgets I'll never get, watching some stupid TV and mainly, sleeping. What's notable is what I have not been doing, which is smoking. Yes, I know, isn't it wonderful and all that. Well, right now it does not feel particularly wonderful and if I think about it too much I could destroy a week of suffering. Thing is, I like smoking. I've always liked it. I miss it, it irritates me to no end that I have to quit but quite honestly, I just can't breathe anymore. So, as my old friend Rikki used to say "There you have it!".

Oh, and I haven't killed Mimi and so far I've only yelled at her once and hit her with a pillow. Not bad, eh?

I may get up and out and about soon, perhaps tomorrow.

Hey Sweetie,

Best of Luck on your endeavor! Are you trying this alone or is Mimi also quitting? I hope this works for you, but for once, I'm probably glad we're not in the same country! Keep us all posted on the progress.

Hang in there, girlfriend. Take it 10 minutes at a time, you can do it.

Paul and I both quit on New Year's day, too.

He was only a sporadic smoker until we moved here, but then really had taken it up again.

I was a closet smoker for years - hardly anyone knew at all. When we started packing up I really accellerated and then once we got here I got more and more into it.

So finally we decided that it was time. I did the patch for a few days but have tried to walk and be in the sunshine as much as possible.

Brushing your teeth a lot helps.

A friend of ours also quit on the first and only made it a couple days so we want to succeed just to show him that he can, too.

Think about how good your clothes and hair smell now.

You'll appreciate the taste of food more.

You can do it! You've already made it through a third of a month!

Going public like you did here is a great idea, too.

Hey Jonna,

Send me an email at nanner@dardarian.com and I'll write you back with a couple of videos I put on Utube of our place. I'm not going to post them to the blog but I thought you'd enjoy them.

Know what your feeling...been there, done that. I used a gum to help with the pangs: helped a lot.

You'll wake up one day and never think about lighting up. THAT'S when it's "There you have it!"

Jonna I hope you find some humor in this ....

Remember, smoking doesn’t kill people. People who are trying to quit smoking kill people.

I quit smoking once for six days. And then they untied me.

Trying to quit smoking can drive you nuts -- especially when you try to light your nicotine gum.

GIVE IT TIME..you really can do it if your brain wants to.

Hang in there.

Jonna, quitting smoking takes lots of gumption...I quit November 20, 1985 at 10 pm and have never had a puff since....but I am still occasionally tempted....at least the nightmares where I dream that I have started smoking again only happen once every few months.

Ya know, I just can't see you happily dragging an oxygen tank on wheels everywhere you go....that image just doesn't work for me with you.

You have my utmost support....but, only you can make it happen. Mostly, you just can't ever have another toke....work on it one minute at a time if you need to.
Hugs, Kathe

Watching Television really helped me quit smoking....You know, the one with the little green screen in the ICU that displays a blip each time your Heart Beats. Drugs can be good. The Docs gave me a little Valium those first couple weeks to smooth the Jitters and Jumps. That was in 1988 (age38) so the lesson stuck for me. Keep at it, Jonna. My BIL just badly fractured 2 bones in his ankle (a plate and a bunch of screws) and the Medicos tell him that if he continues to Smoke there is a 50% chance of the bones never healing....
