We've been here at Santa Rosa Lake State Park for almost 2 weeks. We came here to spend Thanksgiving with our friends Kate & Terry and Andy, other Lazy Daze owners. We needed to stay somewhere while we had things shipped to us and this seemed to be the best idea. It's been beautiful, we've had a lot of fun and great food. We've gotten all sorts of little things done on our rig, Andy & Mimi put in extra 12v outlets and switched others around. We got our mail and the new reflextive sticker with our RVs name Tortuga came with the mail. So, now Tortuga has a shiny, reflective name tag on the back that sparkles in headlights.
We were going to leave today but at 8:30 when Mimi woke up, it was snowing. It hasn't really stopped all day although it is coming down a lot lighter right now. We decided to stay as there are road closures and lots of wind, fog, snow and ice. This is becoming a really interesting fall for us. It's pretty but I still would rather see it on a calendar or a postcard! It's bloody cold! The high today was in the 20's and it is supposed to get into the teens tonight. I promised I wouldn't whine any more about being cold but this is pushing the edge. We're warm and toasty in Tortuga though with both a furnace and the catalytic heater and we have electricity to run it non stop if we want.
This is the first time our Yucatan jungle dogs have seen snow and they are even less impressed than I am. We got them to go out and run around but as soon as you stop calling them they are back at the door of the rig wanting in. They've spent most of the day on the couch, in their sweaters and under their blanket with only an occasional nose showing. No interest at all when Mimi and I go in and out. Basically we are snowed in until probably Friday when it is supposed to warm up. If we had to we could leave but it would be dangerous, we're still trying to float downstream but now the river is full of ice.
I do enjoy looking out the big windows at the snow falling and covering everything. I am baking cookies as it seemed like the perfect thing to do and the oven helps keep it warm. When they are done I think I'll take a nap, this winter thing is tiring Tortuga's new name sticker baptized with snow.
